How to Get Started

Following are some indicators for you to look out for if you suspect your child may be on the autism spectrum. The list provided is by no means exhaustive.

  • Appears aloof and lacks interest in their surroundings.
  • Does not attempt to communicate and if does it is based on his own needs and driven by objects.
  • Does not demonstrate pretend play or other imaginative skills.
  • May become highly distressed at unexpected changes to routines.
  • Demands for sameness in the environment.
  • May have special and repetitive interests.
  • May demonstrate a special skill, e.g. strong memory, early reading ability.
  • May interact with others but has difficulty doing so in an appropriate manner.
  • May find it difficult to see another person's point of view.
  • Limited understanding of certain social skills, e.g. waiting, turn-taking, etc.
  • Limited understanding of body language and facial expression in others.

Where possible we will advise you on the next course of action for your child. Usually it is a Consultation so we can ascertain the needs of your child and the family. Our professional will meet with you, your spouse, and child, for a 1 - 1½ hour fee-based consultation.
